Rosacea
Rosacea is a chronic, but harmless, skin disorder involving inflamation of the cheeks, nose, chin, forehead, or eyelids. It appears as redness, prominent spider-like blood vessels, swelling or skin eruptions similar to acne.
Although the cause(s) of rosacea are unknown, you are more likely to develop the skin condition if you are fair skinned, blush easily, are female and/or between the ages of 30 and 50.
There is no known cure for rosacea. The goal is to identify and avoid possible tirggers and thus reduce flare-ups. Keeping a symptom diary to help identify specific triggers can help you manage flare-ups. Avoiding sun exposure, prolonged activity in the sun, stress, spicy foods and alcoholic beverages can also reduce flare-ups.
